'I do really wish to destroy it!' cried Frodo. 'Or, well, to have it destroyed. I am not made for perilous quests. I wish I had never seen the Ring! Why did it come to me? Why was I chosen?'[p.61]
The Ring is symbolically an addiction through out the book! Frodo tries to fight the 'addiction' and destroy it. Gandalf tries his hardest to guide Frodo through his journey. Frodo feels as though he is no strong enough to stop this addiction, yet all the pressure on him is a sign that he is strong enough and can be triumphant. This Ring is an addiction and obsession to all those who in counter it.
